The Way Things Are

As you may know, our core funding from Arts Council England stopped earlier this year - we were not included in the National Portfolio of organisations receiving regular grant aid.

We were encouraged by ACE to apply for support through the Grants for the Arts stream. We have made two applications for GftA funding, to support an ambitious programme of activity, to be delivered through partnerships with producing theatres and other bodies, which would extend our geographical reach, and help to sustain the thriving new writing ecology which had developed over the previous decade.

Both applications have been unsuccessful.

We are examining ways in which we can continue to operate. We will have further discussions with the Arts Council, and with current and potential partners.

But whatever happens, NWP will not be the same organisation you have known in recent years. NWP grew through three decades since its founding in 1982. It was the first body of its kind in England; and is now the only remaining agency solely devoted to the nurturing and support of script writers - at all levels, and from all backgrounds.
