Writing One-Act Plays

Masterclass with Richard Vergette

An intensive exploration of how to create effective drama in less than an hour (as demanded by Write Now, and other festivals and competitions). How to engage an audience quickly and then develop characters and create a satisfying story arc within a short time-frame. Including some practical writing exercises.

Richard's one-man show An Englishman's Home for Manchester's 24:7 Festival was later selected for The Library Theatre's Re.Play Festival. In 2009 As We Forgive Them won the Manchester Evening News Award for best fringe production, the 24:7 Audience Award and Equity's Vicky Allen award for Best Production. Richard wrote Harry's Luck and Oh No it Isn't for Hull Truck and was commissioned to write two plays to tour into schools. Formerly a teacher and lecturer, Richard has also written two A-level drama text books and a number of revision guides.
